LED - Light for today

Welcome to the advent calendar 2008!

With the winter season many have started to decorate their houses and shops with lights. Make smart choices when choosing your Christmas lights by using energy efficient, innovative technology! LED lights consume 75 % less power than conventional lights. If you make use of a clock timer you can reduce your electricity bill even further.

Light emitting diodes, or LEDs, were first seen in stereo sets as red or green lamps back in the 1970s. LED-lights are efficient, very long-lasting and small and therefore indispensable nowadays. Indoors and outdoors, from the traffic light to electric tooth brushes, LEDs have conquered our households and provide different types of light in an efficient way. Thanks to the rapid development of the last years energy consumption for lights und signalisation can be significantly reduced.

The Swiss electricity provider BKW offered an LED Christmas set consisting of a light chain, a clock timer and an envelope for free disposal of the old light chain. The stock was cleared within days; several thousand household exchanged their Christmas lights and are using the timers to use them more effectively.

Tipp of the day: Use fewer lights and place them with great care. By moving and spinning them you can achieve special effects, such as the ones captured by the photographer Gaetan Lee.
