food free of genetically modified organisms - a concern for all of Europe

Resistance against genetically modified food is on the increase. In all of Europe regions declare them selves free from genetically modified food. End 2008 there are already more than 230. In addition 4200 municipalities and tens of thousands of farmers and food producers.

On November 27, 2005 Switzerland decided in a beschloss die Schweiz in a popular vote, to abstain from genetically modified organisms in agriculture. The moratorium is valid until end 2010. This national regulation has many advantages for farmers and consumers. It functions without conflicts. Recently the Federal Council proposed a three years extension. The Swiss example shows: if the people can decide democratically they opt for food free of genetically modified organisms. The wish for healthy food is widespread in all of Europe.
