Swiss Youth Hostels - for youth, families, groups and the environment!

Since 1996 the youth hostels make huge efforts for sustainable management. The relation to environment is laid down in the policy statement: „We promote environment friendly youth hostels and leasure programmes.“ The long standing ecological management has become an all inclusive strategy. Several measures translate the policy into action. Components: EU environment label for hostels, ibex label, myclimate (CO2 compensation), WWF Climate Group, Eco construction label, Minergy construction type, CO2 neutral heating systems, solar panels, heat pump dryers, energy saving lamps and showera. Since two years a delegate for quality control and ecology has been engaged by the Swiss Youth Hostels.

Compensation
Besides many internal measures for climate protection Swiss Youth Hostels offer its guests the possibility of climate neutral stay. A small extra price is used for additional internal measures, such as new solar collectors for water heating or replacement of fossile heating systems. The other part goes into climate protection projects of myclimate.
