Three examples of local initiatives Feet first - Building Walkable Communities - is a local non-profit organization based in Seattle, which advocates the rights and interests of pedestrians and encourages walking. They publish local maps for pedestrians in their «neighbourhood on foot» strategy.They also published a pedestrian Bill of Rights and note that "streets are designed for speed, not for pedestrians". :: Feet First Seattle, pedestrian advocacy Parking Day is one of the events that Feet First organizes in Seattle. Parking Day started out in San Francisco 2005 and is now a global event. People participate by turning a parking space for vehicles into a mini back yard. They bring garden chairs and socialize with friends and neighbours. It started out as an artistic happening, but the social, ecological and economic aspects show that sustainability is behind this local and global event. :: see more about Parking Day in Seattle In 1989 the idea of slow food began it's slow development. A non profit organisation in Italy aims to "counteract fast food and fast life". Activists, non profit organisations and other citizens are reacting to the fast pace of modern societies and are showing they know how to regain a healthier lifestyle. People all over the world are embracing the slow way of life in many different areas. Slow up and multimobility events in Switzerland are further examples. :: The Italian slow food idea may have been the inspiration for people to go slowly in other areas too. Feet First - Building Walkable Communities - č un’associazione no profit locale, con sede a Seattle, USA che rivendica i diritti e gli interessi dei pedoni e incoraggia la collettivitŕ a camminare. Essa pubblica mappe locali per pedoni usando il motto “il vicinato a piedi” . Ha anche pubblicato la Carta Dei Diritti del Pedone e scritto che “Le strade sono progettate per la velocitŕ, non per i pedoni”.
