These days the world looks to the North from where Father Christmas comes with his reindeers and where politicians from the whole world negotiate a new climate agreement in Copenhagen. Meanwhile enormous water ressources are used for sustainable power production in Norway.

Information requirement of providers about origin of power
Power may be produced from renewable or non renewable sources in the country or abroad. Local energy suppliers receive power from producers, traders or auctions and sell it to their final customers. These have a right to know, where their electricity comes from. To this end the electricity is labelled all over Europe. In order to promote renewable sources of power certificates of origin are issued for the amount of power produced in in certified solar, wind or hydro power stations.

Norwegian water as a CO₂-neutral source of energy
The rivers and lakes in South Norway form a large network. Several dams supply water to smaller and larger hydro power stations. Take a closer look at the next electricity bill. Do you see where the power comes from? Is it from renewable sources?

Your local energy provider should continuously increase the percentage of renewable energy sources, either by promoting them in your local community or buying the CO₂-neutral power with guarantees of origin from producers. For large industries this is an effective measure to reduce the CO₂-impact, promote renewable energy sources in an efficient way and position themselves as a sustainable leader.
