Today we would like to present you two pioniers: You don't become a pioneer simply by your own wish or by a special training. To become a pioneer requires the favourable constellation of timing and character elements of the persons involved.

NEST - pioneers of sustainable investment.
Since 25 years the ethical pension fund Nest demonstrates pioneering spirit. The savings of the insured persons are placed in fair and environment friendly projects. 25 years ago it was new to use negative and positive criteria at the same time. Nest exluded investments nuclear energy or projects which violate human rights and rated companies according to their environmental impacts many years before the banks started offered sustainable products. First experiences with portfolio of shares were encouraging. The investment committee took sustainable developement as a challenge and has recently been rated as one of the best pension funds in Switzerland. The advent-calendar team congratulates Nest on its 25th anniversary. Thank you for your continued and fruitful efforts in sustainable developement!

Pioneers of the future? «It´s all the grownups fault.» Who better than children to design the drastic changes that have to be made in the city? Who wouldn’t want safe streets, accessible public transport, green areas and open spaces? This issue of the spanish magazine «Education and Sustainability» focuses on a variety of ways that young people can help transform their cities, such as children’s city councils, eco-safaris, green guerrillas and urban biodiversity mapping.
